Nanostructured Heterogeneous Catalysts for Bioorthogonal Reactions

Bioorthogonal chemistry has inspired a new subarea of providing powerful tool to perform novel biocompatible chemospecific reactions in living systems. Following the premise that they do not interfere with biological functions, bioorthogonal are increasingly applied biomedical research, particularly respect genetic encoding systems, fluorogenic for bioimaging, and cancer therapy. This Minireview compiles recent advances use heterogeneous catalysts reactions. The synthetic strategies Pd-, Au-, Cu-based materials, their applicability activation caged fluorophores prodrugs, possibilities using external stimuli release therapeutic substances at specific location diseased tissue discussed. Finally, we highlight frontiers field, identifying challenges, propose directions future development this emerging field.
